What is IPSON?
The Irish Psychosocial Oncology Network, or IPSON, is an interdisciplinary organisation that represents professionals working in cancer care. If you are a professional working in cancer care, you are eligible for membership in IPSON.
Our membership includes nurses, counsellors, psychotherapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, OTs, PTs, administrators, and more.
Members work in cancer support centres, acute hospital settings, primary care, hospice and palliative care, academia, and public policy. We warmly welcome students and early-career professionals to join!

What is psychosocial oncology?
“…a multi-disciplinary specialty focusing on the psychological and mental health care of people affected by cancer, their carers and families.”
“Cancer and its treatments have the potential to significantly impact on mental health, physical health and socio-economic status in multiple ways. Most people will use a variety of resources to cope including their own emotional resources, often accessing the advice of healthcare professionals and other support systems such as family, friends, and community cancer support centres.”
